Krishna Lifting Mount Govardhan - A Madhubani Painting

Krishna Lifting Mount Govardhan - A Madhubani Painting

This artwork is inspired by the traditional Madhubani art form and the mythological tale of Lord Krishna's protection of the villagers from Indra's wrath, as recounted in Hindu scriptures. The story is about Krishna, a young boy with divine powers, who saved his village from a big storm. Instead of worshiping the god of rain, Indra, Krishna suggested they honor the land and their animals. Angry, Indra sent a huge rainstorm to punish them. To protect the village, Krishna lifted Mount Govardhan with one finger, shielding everyone underneath from the rain.
